Corkscrew Willow

The Corkscrew Willow tree, Salix matsudana, 'Tortuosa', is a small to medium-sized, upright spreading tree of about 30 feet in height with a 15-foot-spread. This deciduous tree is also known as Tortuosa or Dragon's Claw Willow. The main ornamental feature of this plant is the contorted and twisted branches and twigs. Corkscrew Willow trees tolerate any soil, especially wet soils with poor drainage. It is a fast growing tree with narrow light green leaves.

The Douglas Fir tree, Pseudotsuga menziessi glauca, is a splendid pyramidal evergreen. It has many common names such as, Interior fir, Rocky Mountain, Douglas-fir, Douglas, yellow or red spruce, Oregon pine,and Douglastree. Douglas Fir trees have dark green or blueish green needles. It is a rapid growing hardy tree that grows well in a variety of soils It is used as a windbreak tree and it can also be sheared as a hedge.

Dwarf Red Buckeye

The Dwarf Red Buckeye tree, Aesculus pavia, is one of the first plants in the woodland to reawaken in spring. The Red Buckeye trees starts sending out tender new leaves as early as February, up to a month before the surrounding oaks and maples show any sign of renewed life. It is especially pretty when underplanted with early spring wildflowers. Its large, drooping, dark green leaves provide plenty of interest throughout the growing season. It is easy to grow.

Eastern Red Oak

The Eastern Red Oak tree, Quercus maxima, is a hardwood tree that you can recognize by its pointy-lobed leaves with prickly tips. In autumn the leaves turn a vibrant red, adding bursts of color to our landscapes. The tree is very similar to the Northen Red Oak and is sometimes called a Northen Red Oak. It grows rapidly for an Oak tree and is widely adaptable to moisture and soil types.

Eastern Whitebud

The Eastern Whitebud tree, Cercis canadensis alba, is best known for their profuse white pea-like flowers. The heart-shaped leaves of this redbud tree are 3-5" across and its fruit are brown flat pods about 2-3" long. The trunk of this small tree usually branches close to the ground resulting in a spreading flat-topped to rounded crown. This small deciduous tree is adaptable to other soil types but will not grow well in permanently wet or poorly drained soil. It is used as an ornamental or patio tree.

Flame Amur Maple

The Flame Amur Maple tree, Acer ginnala, is usually a multi-stemmed tree, noted for its fiery-red autumn color. Its summer color is green, but is mixed with bright red samaras or 'helicopters' in mid summer. Flame Amur Maple trees are extremely hardy and drought resistant once established. They make an excellent screen or hedge. They leaf out early and cast dense shade. It is a vigorous grower that is very tolerant of temperature extremes.

Forest Pansy Redbud

The Forest Pansy Redbud tree, Cercis canadensis, 'Forest Pansy', is an excellent small tree for lawns, woodland gardens or naturalized areas. Effective if planted as a specimen or in groups. It is frequently planted as a street tree in residential areas. It is a small, deciduous, understory tree with a spreading, flat-to-rounded crown. Heart-shaped leaves open bright reddish-purple and gradually mature to a more muted purple. Easily grown in average, medium wet, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade.

Ginkgo

The Gingko tree, Ginkgo biloba, is the sole surviving species of a group of Gymnosperms that flourished 65 million years ago, the time when dinosaurs existed. Gingko trees are also called Maidenhair trees. It is the only living gymnosperm (which includes pines, firs, and spruces) that sheds its leaves during the fall. Ginkgo are not native to North America, rather they are indigenous to China, Japan, and Korea, where they may still exist in remote mountainous parts.

Chinese Flame Goldenrain Tree

The Chinese Flame tree, Koelreuteria bipinnata, is a deciduous tree that has a round canopy. It is a medium to rapid growing tree with medium green oval leaves. The beautiful yellow flowers, 2" long, in clusters 8-14" long, bloom June-August. The seed pods are long and orange, red or salmon-colored papery in color. Chinese Flame trees are drought tolerant and can tolerate poor drainage, poor soils, smog and temperature extremes. The beautiful flower clusters attract birds and bees.

Green Smoketree

The Green Smoketree, Cotinus coggygria, is a deciduous shrub/tree. The branches are spreading, loose, and as wide as high. Green Smoketrees have bluish green, sometimes yellow like leaves. Their fall color is red-purple.This deciduous tree has showy pubescent pedicels and peduncles of flowers that provide the "smoke" appearance. Smoketrees like sun. It is a tough tree that is adaptable to widely divergent soils and pH ranges, and it is very drought resistant. It is a great accent tree.

Colorado Blue Spruce

The Colorado Blue Spruce tree, Picea Pungens, is a pyramidal shaped evergreen with steel blue foliage. It prefers heavier soils, full sun, and clean cultivation. Colorado Blue Spruce trees will reach a height of six feet in eight years on a good site, starting with a 2 year old seedling. The Blue Spruce is probably the most drought tolerant of all spruce trees. A handsome ornamental specimen for use as a dense, colorful screen or windbreak. Space 6 ft. apart when used as a screen or windbreak.

Hazelnut

The Hazelnut tree, Corylus americana, also commonly called the American filbert, is a Missouri native, deciduous, rounded, multi-stemmed tree/shrub which typically grows 8-16' tall and occurs in dry or moist thickets, woodlands and wood margins, valleys, uplands and prairies. In spring, male flowers appear in showy, 2-3" long, yellowish brown catkins and female flowers appear in small, reddish, inconspicuous catkins. The fall color is quite variable, ranging from attractive combinations of orange, rose, purplish red, yellow and green to yellowish green.

Horsechestnut Buckeye

The Horsechestnut Buckeye tree, Aesculus hippocastanum, is a beautiful, round-headed tree perfectly suited for use in smaller yards. This flowering tree has long, dense clusters of single, bright-red flowers and are very attractive and favored by hummingbirds. Horsechestnut Buckeye trees are deciduous. This tree is widely planted in parks, avenues and in large gardens. Fruits have a leathery case covered with short prickles and in autumn release large seeds.

Loblolly Pine

The Loblolly Pine tree, Pinus taeda, is a fast-growing member of the yellow pine group. It is also called yellow pine, North Carolina pine, and oldfield pine and is the most commercially important forest species in the southern United States. Loblolly Pine trees can grow up to 100 feet tall and up to three feet in diameter; however, along the coast they seldom rise more than 50 feet. It thrives in a variety of soils, including well-drained upland areas with poor nutrient concentrations to poorly drained lowland areas and abandoned fields.

London Sycamore

The London Sycamore tree, Platanus Acerifolia, or "Bloodgood Sycamore" is a large tree. The tree will reach a height of 85 feet and a spread of 70 feet. Pyramidal in youth, it develops a spreading rounded crown with age supported by a few, very large diameter branches. The bark is patchy and very attractive and may be the plants best ornamental attribute. London Sycamore trees are easily transplanted and will do well in most soils, but prefers a deep, rich soil. As a big tree, it also provides lots of wonderful shade in parks.

Magnolia x Ann

The Ann Magnolia tree, Magnolia x Ann, is a member of the 'Little Girl' series of Magnolias that are the result of a cross originally made at the U.S. National Arboretum. 'Ann' develops a somewhat open habit with deep purple-red, 7-9 inch petaled flowers. Ann Magnolia trees are vigorous and hardy. It forms a shrubby mound and has leathery green foliage. It has lightly scented reddish-purple flowers that emerge from beautiful, tapered buds. The flowers are large and red-purple on both sides.

The Mayhaw tree, Crataegus aestivalis, is a slow-growing native North American tree that reaches a height of 30 feet with a rounded canopy that spreads to 35 feet or more. Mockernut Hickery

The Mockernut Hickory tree, Carya tomentosa, is also called a White Hickory, Whiteheart Hickory, Hognut and Bullnut.The gray bark of this tree is marked with branching ridges and deep furrows. Mockernut hickory is so named because the nuts are large but with thick shells and very small kernels. The twigs are stout and reddish-brown to grayish-brown in color. The unusually small kernels from the nuts are sweet and edible. This and the other hickories are very desirable both for forest and shade trees.

Mugho Pine

The Mugho Pine tree, Pinus mugo mughus, may also be called the dwarf mountain pine. This evergreen little dwarf conifer has branching, upright stems evenly covered in 2-inch-long needles of a deep, dark true green. It does require good drainage. Roots grow near the surface, so using a cover soil with a 2-inch-thick mulch to protect them is recommended. These trees are easily transplanted. They make a great landscaping evergreen tree because their shape and size are controllable by shearing.

Native American Plum

The Native American Plum tree, Prunus americana, is also known as the Native Plum, Hedge Plum, Sloe or Wild Plum. Native American Plum trees are small, deciduous, single trunk trees or a multi-stemmed shrub which occurs in rocky or sandy soils in woodlands, pastures, abandoned farms, streams and hedgerows. This deciduous tree typically grows to 15-25' tall with a broad, spreading crown. Branches and twigs are an attractive dark reddish-brown. Wildlife are attracted to the sweet fruits.

Northern Catalpa

The Northern Catalpa tree, Catalpa speciosa, is now naturalized in urban and rural areas and is primarily used today as a large ornamental shade tree. Farmers introduced Northern Catalpa to Ohio in order to produce large amounts of relatively lightweight timber for fenceposts, since the wood is very resistant to rotting. Northern Catalpa trees are a very fast growing trees with large heart-shaped leaves. The white flowers are on 4-8 inch long panicles in late June. Fruit is a long pod.

Nuttall Oak

The Nuttall Oak tree, Quercus nuttallii, was not distinguished as a species until 1927. It is also called red oak, Red River oak, and pin oak. It is one of the few commercially important species found on poorly drained clay flats and low bottoms of the Gulf Coastal Plain and north in the Mississippi and Red River Valleys. In addition to producing timber, Nuttall oak is an important species for wildlife management because of heavy annual mast production.

The Ohio Buckeye tree, Aesculus glabra, derives the name from its large brown seeds, which resemble the eyes of the white-tailed deer. In the spring it produces greenish yellow flowers with protruding stamens, followed by prickly fruits. It is a handsome tree with attractive foliage. The Ohio buckeye is also known as American buckeye, fetid buckeye, and stinking buck-eye.The leaves are dark green above and paler below. This deciduous tree is a good shade tree.

Okame Cherry

The Okame Cherry tree, Prunus Okame, is one of the earliest of the flowering cherries. Its carmine-pink petals, with rose-red calyx and reddish flower stalks, open fully before leaf break. It has a very consistent year-to-year blooming habit. At maturity, µOkame¦ Cherry trees will attain 20-30' in height with a similar spread. The young trees display a broad-columnar habit; older trees develop a more rounded habit.It makes a fine specimen tree and should be sited where it can be easily seen in late winter/early spring.

Oklahoma Redbud

The Oklahoma Redbud tree, Cercis reniformis, 'Oklahoma', has glossy green foliage. This redbud tree was discovered growing wild in the Arbuckle Mountains of Oklahoma in 1964. This tree has clusters of tiny, wine-red, pea-like flowers that bloom profusely on the branches and mature trunks for 2-3 weeks in early spring (March-April) before the foliage emerges. Part shade is best in hot climates. Excellent small tree for lawns, woodland gardens or naturalized areas.

Osage Orange

The Osage Orange tree, Maclura pomifera, has bright green summer leaves with yellow fall color. The Osage Orange bears an inedible fruit resembling a woody orange. Native to the midwestern and southeastern United States, this species is also known as the hedge apple because it was planted in thicket-like hedge rows before the advent of barbed wire fences. A yellow-orange dye is also extracted from the wood and is used as a substitute for fustic and aniline dyes in arts and industry.

Paw Paw

The Paw Paw tree, Asimina triloba, is a multi-stemmed shrub or small tree with short trunk and rounded top that presents a semi-tropical appearance. PawPaw trees average about 15' in height at maturity. It prospers in moist soils and when placed at the edge of a wooded area as an understory tree. It is recognized by its µsleepy¦ summer foliage and nodding bright purple flowers in the spring. Two trees are necessary for pollination reasons. Fall color is a brilliant yellow.

Persimmon

The American Persimmon tree, Diospyrus virginiana, is a native fruit tree with attractive edible fruit. Its dark-green leaves conceal small fragrant white flowers that are replaced by pale-orange fruits, which ripen after frost. It is one of the first invaders of old fields with the seeds brought in by wild birds and animals. The leaf is rather leathery and dark green. In a good environment and with good care, fruiting will begin in year six and continues for fifty years or more.

Pignut Hickory

The Pignut Hickory tree, Carya glabra, has medium green broad, flat leaves and firm, gray bark. The bark may be marked in a sort of diamond pattern by shallow furrows and narrow ridges. This tree grows well in fairly rich, well drained to dry soils. It occurs with other hickories and with oaks, characteristically on hillsides and ridges. The nuts they are an important food for squirrels and chipmunks and other wildlife. This shade tree turns a bright yellow for great fall color.

Pink Flowering Dogwood

The Pink Flowering Dogwood tree, Cornus florida rubra, has very large pink flowers that appear in the early spring before the foliage comes out. Post Oak

The Post Oak tree, Quercus stellata, is a small to medium-sized tree. The bark of the Post Oak is similar to that of the White Oak, but somewhat darker and often fissured into scaly ridges. The leaves of Post Oak trees are usually 4 to 5 inches long and they are thick and somewhat leathery. They are dark green and shiny on the upper surface and lighter green and rough hairy beneath. The acorns matures in one year, ripening September to November. The leaves turn to a golden color in the fall.

Red Flowering Dogwood

The Red Flowering Dogwood tree, Cornus florida, 'Cherokee Chief', exhibits a moderate growth rate. The new growth is red. Red Flowering Dogwood trees have moderate resistance to mildew. Shellbark hickory trees are also called shagbark hickory, bigleaf shagbark hickory, kingnut, big shellbark, bottom shellbark, thick shellbark, and western shellbark, which attest to some of its characteristics. As with other edible nuts, squirrels compete with humans for this fruit. Its bold-textured, jagged branch structure and thick twigs give it a striking appearance in winter.

The Shellbark Hickory tree, Carya laciniosa, is also know as bigleaf shagbark, kingnut, big shellbark, bottom shellbark, thick shellbark and western shellbark). Place in full sun to partial shade. This deciduous tree has soft wood and it is close-grained and a favorite wood for crafts. The white bell-shaped flowers and small size make it a desirable tree for landscaping. The seeds are eaten by squirrels and the flowers provide honey for bees. Fall color is chartreuse to yellow-brown. Silverbell trees exhibit pendulous bell-shaped white flowers in spring.

Snow White Flwrng. Dogwood

Southern Red Oak trees are a medium-sized tree with a short trunk and large branches supporting a rounded crown. The bark is dark gray in color, furrowed, and is marked by rough ridges and plates. The Southern Oak tree is deciduous and is a good shade tree adapted to drier sites. The wood of the Southern Red Oak is strong and coarse-grained.

Sugarberry

The Sugarberry tree, Celtis laevigata, is also commonly called sugar hackberry or southern hackberry or Mississippi hackberry.Sugarberry trees are basically a southern version of common or northern hackberry. The Sugarberry tree differs from common hackberry because the fruits are juicier and sweeter, bark is less corky, and leaves are narrower with mostly smooth margins. Fruits are attractive to a variety of wildlife, especially birds. Leaves are glossy to dull green leaves (2-4÷ long) and have a yellow fall color.

Sunburst Honey Locust

The Sunburst Honeylocust tree, Gleditsia triacanthos inermis, 'Sunburst', is smaller in stature than the common Honeylocust tree. Sunburst Honeylocust trees display yellow new growth, and the yellow leaves persists throughout the season. The wood is dense, hard, and durable. The leaves are divided into many small, oval leaflets giving a fern-like appearance to the foliage; leaves are normally green, but the 'Sunburst' cultivar has light yellow leaves. Does best in moist bottomlands or soils with high pH. Prefers full sun.

Swamp Chestnut Oak

The Swamp Chestnut Oak tree, Quercus michauxii, is known also as a basket oak for the baskets made from its wood, and cow oak because cows eat the acorns. One of the important timber trees of the South, it grows on moist and wet loamy soils of bottom lands, along streams and borders of swamps.Swamp chestnut oak trees are deciduous and have leaves that vary from four to eight inches in length, are downy beneath and turn a rich crimson in the fall. A good shade tree.

Swamp White Oak

The Swamp White Oak tree, Quercus bicolor, is a beautiful native tree with lustrous, heavy textured leaves with wavy margins. This rugged oak grows well in either upland or swampy areas. It is tolerant of poorly drained sites and frequently is found in heavy mucky soils. The Swamp White Oak is a rapidly growing tree that flowers in spring. The sweet acorns are eaten by whitetail deer, mallards, wood ducks, wild turkeys, squirrels, woodpeckers, and smaller rodents.

Sweet Bay Magnolia

The Sweetbay Magnolia tree, Magnolia virginiana , is also called sweetbay, swampbay, or swamp magnolia. This tree is often grown as an ornamental landscape tree because of its attractive foliage, flowers, and fruit. It occurs naturally in moist and wet soils in wetland areas such as swamps and along streams and ponds.ßSweetbay magnolia is a medium, evergreen tree that generally has a pen crown of sparsely spreading branches, and it is deciduous in the northern United States.

Texana Nuttall Oak

The Texana Nuttall Oak tree, Quercus texana, also known as Spanish oak, Nuttall's oak, Texas red oak, Spotted Oak, Rock oak, and red river oak, is a large deciduous native tree of the red oak group. The Texana Nuttail tree has a wide-spreading, rounded crown. Fruits are oval acorns (to 1 1/2" long) with scaly cups. Dark green leaves (4-8" long) are deeply divided into 5-7 spiny, pointed lobes. The acorn matures in two seasons. The acorns are eaten by water fowl and many small mammals.

Texas Whitebud

The Texas Whitebud tree, Cercis canadensis, 'Texas Whitebud', has glossy green foliage. It is a small, deciduous understory tree which typically grows to 12-18' tall. Clusters of tiny, white, pea-like flowers bloom profusely on the branches and mature trunks for 2-3 weeks in early spring (March-April) before the foliage emerges. Excellent small tree for lawns, woodland gardens or naturalized areas. Effective planted as a specimen or in groups. Use as a street tree in residential areas.

Tree Lilac

The Tree Lilac, Syringa reticulata, 'Ivory Silk' is a heavily flowering tree, covered by large plumes of small white flowers in the beginning of summer. It¦s dark green leaves blending with it¦s fragrant lavender flowers are a favorite for spring-time landscapes. Lilac lovers prefer the mutiple-stemmed, large shrub. The Tree Lilac is also called a Japanese tree lilac or Ivory Silk lilac. It flowers more heavily than other lilac species. Ivory Silk is probably the most trouble free and tough lilac that is available.

Eastern White Pine

The Eastern White Pine, Pinus Strobus, is a beautiful landscape pine widely used throughout much of North America. This evergreen conifer tree is a truly magnificent tree attaining a height of 80 feet at maturity with a diameter of two to three feet. It carries long, soft bluish green needles with large brown cones. Eastern White Pine trees are widely used as a screen or windbreak. It is easily controlled, and is good for small properties as well as field plantings. Also widely used for Christmas trees and timber.

Water Oak

The Water Oak tree, Quercus nigra, is also known as a spotted oak or possum oak. Water Oak trees are a conical to round-topped tree. It is a popular tree in the South as a shade and street tree. This deciduous tree is fast growing and it starts producing acorns before its 10th year. The Water Oak is found along streams and low ground. Water oak acorns provide food for many animals such as squirrels, white-tailed deer, and wild turkey.

Water Tupelo

The Water Tupelo tree, Nyssa aquatica, is also called the cottongum, sourgum, swamp tupelo, tupelo-gum, and water-gum. Water Tupelo trees are a large, long-lived trees that grow in southern swamps and flood plains where its root system is periodically under water. This deciduous tree has a swollen base that tapers to a long, clear bole and often occurs in pure stands. The fragrant flowers entice many visits from spring pollinators. The fall color is yellow to purple.

Weeping Cherry

The Weeping Cherry tree, Prunus subhirtelia 'Pendula', has a medium growth rate for its arching vertical growth, but a rapid growth rate for its many weeping stems. If desired, stems that weep to the ground can be pruned up to a desired height (either staggered in height for informality, or clipped to precisely the same height for formality) so that mowing, growth of other ornamentals, or maintenance access can be achieved underneath the tree.

White Fringe Tree

The White Fringetree, Chionanthus virginicus, is a deciduous shrub or small tree with a spreading, rounded habit. It is also known as Old Mans Beard. The common name refers to the slightly fragrant, spring-blooming flowers which feature airy, terminal, drooping clusters (4-6" long) of fringe-like, creamy white petals. Flowers give way to clusters of olive-like fruits which ripen to a dark, bluish black in late summer and are a food source for birds and wildlife. Wide, spear-shaped leaves (to 8" long) turn yellow in autumn. White Fringetrees are easily grown in average, medium wet, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. It prefers moist, fertile soils. These deciduous trees seldom need pruning. They are intolerant of air pollution and prolonged dry conditions and grow in groups, as specimens in lawns, in shrub, or in woodland borders. They may also may be used in native plant gardens or near streams or ponds. They are spectacular in full bloom.

White Mulberry

The White Mulberry tree, Morus Alba Tatarica, has many common names, such as, White mulberry, Russian mulberry, Silkworm mulberry, and Moral blanco. The White Mulberry is an excellent and handsome shade tree and is often planted on field edges in irrigated, semi-arid lands where it is also valued for fruit, poles and timber. Mulberries thrive in full sun and dislike crowded conditions; they prefer deep soils and need good drainage; they are frost resistant.

White Spruce

The White Spruce tree, Picea glauca, has many common names including the Western White Spruce, Canadian Spruce, Alberta Spruce, Alberta White Spruce, Black Hills Spruce, Skunk Spruce, Cat Spruce, and Porsild Spruce. White Spruce trees can grow rapidly if placed in a well drained location and it is adaptable to many soil types. It makes a beautiful Christmas tree, ornamental specimen, when planted as a single, or it can be a steady windbreak when planted in rows.

White Walnut

The White Walnut tree, Juglans cinerea, also known as White walnut and Butternut tree is a small to medium-sized tree. This tree has a short trunk which is divided into a few ascending limbs with large spreading, sparsely forked branches. The smaller branches tend to bend downwards and then turn up at the ends. White Walnut trees grows fast, especially as a seedling, but usually does not live longer than 75 years. Tree is best known for the rich quality of its wood. It makes a good shade tree.

Yellow Buckeye

The Yellow Buckeye tree, Aesculus octandra, is an ornamental tree and may also be known as the big buckeye, buckeye, large buckeye, Ohio buckeye, and sweet buckeye. The smallish creamy yellow or occasionally pinkish flowers appear in 6" panicles from late spring to early summer, followed by fruits each with 2 to 4 seeds.The dark green leaves turn yellow before falling. The bark is dark brown, becoming furrowed with age. Yellow Buckeye trees have nuts that are attractive to squirrels.

Yoshino Flowering Cherry

The Yoshino Cherry tree, Prunus X Yedoensis, has white or pink clusters of beautiful flowers that have a scent of almond. The flowers appear before the leaves. These ornamental cherries are bred for flowers and fragrance instead of fruit. It is excellent as a border or mass plantings in an open area or as specimen tree. They are exceptionally showy with evergreens in background. It is the main cherry tree in the Washington tidal basin, common on US Capitol grounds and around the Library of Congress.

Zumi Crabapple

The Zumi Crabapple tree, Malus x Zumi 'Calocarpa', is valued for its profuse, spring bloom of fragrant, white flowers and for its glossy, small, bright red crabapples which mature in the fall and often persist into December. This is a semi-dwarf crabapple which is effective when planted as background for other early flowering plants, near fences, in groups as a screen or hedge, or as a specimen planting in the lawn or near the patio. May be used as a street tree.

Gobbler Sawtooth Oak

The Gobbler Sawtooth Oak tree, Quercus acutissima, produces acorns in 5 years, supports wildlife, and is fast growing tree. The (Gobbler÷ Sawtooth Oak, is the same as the Sawtooth Oak but produces a smaller acorn.The Gobbler begins bearing acorns in the fifth or sixth year in a nursery location. The Gobbler grows fast for an oak tree. Fall leaf color will be yellow to golden brown. Green Ash

Hardy Pecan

The Hardy Pecan tree, Carya Illinoinensis, is a beautiful, majestic tree that grows to a height of 70 to 100 feet with a spread of 40 to 75 feet. The tree provides a bounty of sweet edible fruits and lots of summer shade after reaching maturity. Hardy Pecan trees have moderate water requirements and has a moderate tolerance to salt and alkali soils.This deciduous, hardy, shade tree is ideal for lawns because it does not shed its leaves until late fall. It begins to bear nuts in 12-15 years.

Willow Hybrid

The Willow Hybrid tree, Salix Willow Hybrid, also called a Hybrid Willow, will, on average, and under normal conditions, grow six feet per year. Under ideal conditions and on good sites the growth rate is even faster, up to twenty feet a year. Planted as a hedge, screen, windbreak, or to line a road or drive, you can expect this tree to be over 20¦ tall and 15¦ wide in just three years. Northern Red Oak

Pin Oak

The Pin Oak tree, Quercus palustris, is probably the most widely used native oak for landscaping. One of the faster growing oaks; it can grow 12 to 15¦ over a 5 to 7 year period. Pin Oak trees have moderate water requirements and have a moderate tolerance to salt and alkali soils.This deciduous tree prospers in a range of soil types including wet soils. It loses it lower limbs with age. Young trees and lower branches of older trees hold leaves throughout winter.

Ponderosa Pine

The Ponderosa Pine, Pinus Ponderosa, will grow on most soils including very sandy soils and sites with very little topsoil. Once established, it is very drought resistant. With good care, Ponderosa Pine trees will grow to a height of six feet in six years, starting with a 2 year old seedling. It is a tall stately tree that is widely used in windbreaks. This evergreen conifer tree thrives in full sun and poor soil, and it is one of the tallest and most important timber pines in the western states.

Hybrid Poplar

The Poplar Hybrid tree, Populus Hybrid, will grow six feet per year with average and normal conditions This fast growing tree is often planted as a hedge, screen, windbreak, or to line a road or drive. You can expect this tree to be over 20¦ tall and 15¦ wide in just three years. It can grow to over 70¦ tall. It normally lives 30-50 years. It is wind, disease, and insect-resistant and it can take the cold as far north as Canada. This poplar is often used to reforest after forest fire, and to reclaim land after strip mining.

Red Maple

The Red Maple tree, Acer rubrum, is a deciduous tree which will typically grow 40-60' tall with a rounded to oval crown. In northern states, red maple usually occurs in wet bottomland, river flood plains, and wet woods, but in the south, it typically frequents drier, rocky upland areas. Leaves are shiny green above and pale green beneath, 3-5 lobed and 3-6" across. Sap of this tree can be used to make a maple syrup that is inferior in quality to syrups made from the sugar maple.

Russian Olive

The Russian Olive tree, Elaeagnus Angustifolia, is an excellent windbreak and wildlife tree. It is extremely tolerant of environmental factors. The best windbreak tree for high wind areas. The Russian Olive has low water requirements and displays a high tolerance for salt and alkali Prized for its silvery gray foliage. Prefers a sunny location and is tolerant of most soil types.

Sawtooth Oak

The Sawtooth Oak tree, Quercus acutissima, is a wide spreading shade or lawn tree. This deciduous tree is a great source for wildlife food because it begins to produce acorns in its sixth year in the nursery. It is a highly prized oak for wildlife enthusiasts because of the short time it takes for the tree to produce acorns. The leaves go from yellow to golden brown in the fall, and open to a brilliant golden yellow in the spring. Its growth rate is rapid for an oak tree, and it is a fast growing shade tree.

Scotch Pine

The Scotch Pine tree, Pinus Sylvestris, is a conifer that is a native of Europe and is widely used as a Christmas Tree. It is a fast growing, irregularly shaped tree. The evergreen foliage consists of short, twisted needles, which are bluish-green and often change to yellow-green in winter. When used in windbreaks, it should be placed in east or south inside rows and works best in partial shade to full sun. It is a hardy tree that grows rapidly for a pine tree.

Siberian Elm

The Siberian Elm tree, Ulmus pumila, is the fastest growing deciduous hedge we know of and the more you trim, the denser the hedge. The Siberian Elm is a fast growing, hardy, and drought resistant tree when established. It is one of the first to leaf in the spring and one of the last to shed its leaves in the fall. Siberian Elm has moderate water requirements until established. Very adaptable, often grows under adverse conditions. Resistant to Dutch elm disease. Excellent when used for wildlife cover.

Sugar Maple

The Sugar Maple tree, Acer Saccharum, is one of our most majestic deciduous trees. It is excellent for large shade or lawn locations. The Sugar Maple has a dense crown with glossy dark green, heavily waxed leaves. It is one of our best trees for fall color when leaves turn brilliant red or yellow-orange. The sap of the Sugar Maple is often collected in the spring to make many flavorful confections. Does not do well in restricted root zone. It has majestic, brilliant fall color and dense shade.

American Sycamore

The American Sycamore, Platanus occidentalis, is a very adaptabe and rugged tree. American Sycamore trees are fast growing, large shade trees with a massive trunk and a have a wide-spreading open crown of large crooked branches. The bark will flake off in irregular thin pieces which give American Sycamore trees an impressive mottled appearance.The American Sycamore has moderate water requirements and exhibits a moderate tolerance to salt and alkali soils.
