Iceland Nudicaule Mix Poppy

The Poppy Iceland Nudicale Blend, 'Papaver nucicaule', has dainty, graceful bright colored flowers on 15 inch slender, leafless stems. No flower is quite as dramatic as the Iceland Poppy when the sun shines through the petals. The Iceland Poppy has 3 inch flowers in colors of orange, red, pink, rose, yellow, cream, and white. The Iceland blooms in the cool weather of spring for 2 to 3 weeks. Successive plantings every 20-25 days apart will produce blooms all growing season. The Iceland Poppy makes great cut flowers.

Oriental Mix Poppy

The Poppy Oriental, Oriental Blend, 'Papaver orientale', will be the most dramatic flower in your garden when its large 4 to 8 inch crepe paper-like flowers appear. This is a very hardy perennial in cooler climates and it is short lived in warmer climates, but no less dramatic. The foliage completely dies back after bloom and reappears in the fall. The large flowers appear in colors of orange, pink, red, salmon, and white. This Poppy looks great mixed in with summer and fall blooming annuals and perennials.

The Poppy Shirley Single Blend, 'Papaver rhoeas', has masses of tissue-paper like flowers and it is a very easy annual to grow in the garden. The Shirley Single Blend as 2 inch spectacular flowers that sway in the wind in even the slightest breeze. Flower colors include pink, white, red, and rose shades. Pinching off spent flowers significantly increases bloom period. Plant in early spring as soon as the ground can be worked or in the fall in mild climates. The Single Blend Poppy is a good cut flower.

Double Mix Portulaca

The Portulaca Double Mix, 'Portulaca grandiflora', is a great plant for hot, dry summers or warm locations such as parking strips, dry banks, rock gardens, ground cover, and hanging baskets. The Double Mix displays beautiful 1 to 2 inch rose-like, double, brilliantly colored flowers in red, cerise, rose pink, orange, yellow, white, and pastel shades. It blooms from early summer into the fall. The Double Mix Portulaca are great for ground cover in a hot spot.

Blue Victoria Salvia

The Blue Victoria Salvia, 'Salvia farinacea, is native to Texas and New Mexico. Lovely spikes of deep purple-blue flowers cover this dwarf variety. The 1/2 inch long flowers are clustered densely along upright stems which rise above the foliage. Blue Victoria Salvias bloom summer through fall. Place this flower in full sun and in average well drained garden soil for best results. Plant 2 weeks after the last frost where the Blue Victoria is an annual.

Mixed Colors Salvia

The Mixed Colors Salvia, 'Salvia splendens', has very unusual intensely colored spikes on dense, deep green plants. This plant has a dramatic appearance in mass plantings, border, and pots. The Mixed Colors Salvia have 6 to 8 inch tall spikes of salmon, rose, scarlet, and violet flowers. This plant will do best in full sun, but will thrive and bloom in partial shade. Plant in the spring after the last killing frost date. This Salvia is easy to grow and makes an excellent border plant and is great in containers or planters.

Isaac House Mix Scabiosa

The Scabiosa Pincushion Flower Isaac House Mix, 'Scabiosa caucasica', is a charming, traditional cottage garden beauty. The blossoms appear as fragile as summer snowflakes but this is a tough, carefree, very hardy plant with few pests or diseases. The flowers are 3 to 4 inches wide and the outer frill of the petals is pink, white, and lavender blue while the center "pincushion" is white with pinkish pins. The Scabiosa is an excellent cut flower, and they lend themselves to be used in formal flower borders and wildflower gardens.

The Magic Carpet Snapdragon, 'Antirrhinum majus', is a dwarf plant that has a trailing habit that makes it excellent for border fronts, planter boxes, and as an unusual groundcover. Magic Carpet Snapdragons blooms in spring to early summer. Snapdragons display shades of red, white, yellow, and pink on 4 to 6 inch flower stalks. They prefer and will bloom best in full sun. If the Snapdragons get to bud stage before nights get to 50 degrees, they will bloom much of the winter and spring.

Tall Maximum Mix Snapdragon

The Snapdragon, Tall Maximum Mix, 'Antirrhinum majus', has tall flower spikes. The flower spikes of this exceptional cut flower delight children as the flower "mouth" opens when the sides are pressed. Every cottage garden should have these tall snapdragons. They are described as having incredible combinations of colors, and cut flower enthusiasts rejoice when their "snaps" bloom. They prefer full sun and well drained soil with a neutral PH. Cutting back spent flower stalks will tend to encourage fall blooming.

The Statice, Sinuata Mix, 'Limonium sinuatum', displays delicate sprays of densely clustered, brightly colored flowers. These long lasting flowers are superior cut or dried. The Sunflower Autumn Beauty, 'Helianthus annuus, is a multi-branched plant that produces many beautiful 5 to 8 inch flowers in a wide range of "autumnal" colors. It also makes a great cut flower. Autumn Beautys bloom over an extended period of time. This is a sunflower that will turn heads. After the initial spring planting, plant another crop in month. This will ensure a continual supply of flowers until late fall. They are drought tolerant, but they will take considerable moisture for full flowering.

False- Summer Sun Sunflower

The Sunflower False, Summer Sun, 'Heliopsis helianthoides', is a perennial sunflower that blooms all summer. It is easy an easy to grow addition to any perennial bed. The Summer Sun also makes a nice cut flower. The flowers are 3 to 4 inches across and are yellow daisy-like with yellow centers. It is an excellent summer and fall screen or border. Keep the plants attractive by removing spent flowers. The Summer Sun would be an excellent addition to a wildflower patch or naturalized area receiving little or no care.

The Teddy Bear sunflower, 'Helianthus annuus', is a dwarf sunflower plant with many 4 to 6 inch double yellow-gold flowers that look like huge mums. Teddy Bear sunflowers are annual that blooms mid-summer to fall. It will grow in almost any soil and is drought tolerant but, for larger and profuse flowering, good moisture is required. A second planting 2 weeks after the initial planting and a third planting 2 weeks later will produce attractive foliage and flowers until the first fall frost. Place this plant in full sun for best results.

Vanilla Ice Sunflower

The Vanilla Ice sunflower, 'Helianthus debilis', produces florist quality cut flowers and is an excellent border plant. The off-white flowers are between 5 and 8 inches wide. The plant is multi-flowered. Vanilla Ice sunflowers are drought tolerant but will take considerable moisture for full flowering. This plant will grow on almost any soil.
