Swirl Mix Impatiens

The Impatiens Swirl, 'Impatiens wallerana', has shimmering pearl colors that are stunning. No shade garden should be without it! The 1 1/2 inch flowers are pink, coral, and peach surrounded by a darker petal margin that distinctively set off each flower. The Swirl Impatiens blooms summer to fall. This plant is also called Busy Lizzie. These plants will flower prolifically in the shade. The Swirl is especially attractive planted in mass, and they can be also grown inside as house plant.

Burgundy Wine Knautia

The Knautia Burgundy Wine, 'Knautia macedonica', has brilliant burgundy to crimson-red pincushions on long stems. Create a sense of drama and mystery in your garden with "see-through" plants. These medium-tall plants in the front or middle of a bed will entice the viewer without completely obscuring the view beyond. Plant in early spring, 2 to 4 weeks before last average frost date. The Burgundy Wines are great for cottage gardens, borders, and meadows. They also will attract butterflies.

Dramatic, tropical, romantic, old-fashioned; they all describe Love-Lies-Bleeding. This plant was popular in colonial American and Victorian English gardens. The tassels can reach 18 inches and last for many weeks. Plant in the spring after last average frost date. They are excellent for fresh or dried flower arrrangements.

Russell Mix Lupine

The Lupine Russell Blend, 'Lupinus 'Russell Hybrids', has tall flower spikes with a large range of colors that makes Lupine when planted in groups a dramatic sight. Plant in the spring after the last average frost date. The Torch Mexican Sunflower make excellent cut flowers and are great summer and fall screens or borders.

Spanish Flag Mina Lobata

The Mina Lobata Spanish Flag, 'Tpomoea lobata', has sprays of crimson flowers that change to orange and yellow, then white, and are suitable of cuttings. The Spanish Flag is related to the morning glory and is sometimes called the Firecracker Vine or Exotic Love plant. This plant has 1 to 2 inch tubular flowers that occur in spikes of up to 12 flowers. The Spanish Flag is used for pots, baskets, climbing up fences, trellises, and ground cover.

Money Plant

The Money Plant Honesty, 'Lunaria biennis', is an old fashioned garden favorite. The Money Plants seed pods are silvery, translucent "coins" perfect for dried bouquets. This Heirloom has been popular in winter arrangements since colonial times. The Money Plant is also called honesty, silver dollar, satinflower, penny flower, Judas' penny, and moonwart. The 1/2 inch flowers have four petals. The flowers resemble wild mustard but are purple or white instead of yellow. This plant is often used for cut and dried flowers.

Monkshood

The Monkshood, 'Aconitum napellus', is a wonderfully different perennial for your shade garden. Monkshood perform best in shade under trees or on the east or north side of a house. The flowers occur in clusters along tall spikes. Flowers are deep blue to blue and have 1 to 2 inch high hoods. Monkshood takes 2 to 3 years to bloom from seed. They bloom from late summer into early fall. They are used for cut flowers and shade gardens. Note: All parts of the plant are poisonous, especially the roots.

Moonflower

The Moonflower, 'Tpomoea alba', has twisted buds that unfurl at dusk to reveal huge white blossoms that are deliciously fragrant. Locate this fast growing vine on a porch, near an entrance, or under a window where you can enjoy its evening performance and heady fragrance. The flowers unfold in 2 to 3 minutes and is an event worth inviting guests. Plants started too early are less vigorous than those started later. Moonflowers are used for pots, baskets, climbing up fences and trellises and for ground covers.
